Winter Is When Your Skin Heals Best (The Cheat Code for Glowy Skin by Spring)

Winter - especially long PNW winter- is secretly the best time to treat your skin.

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror in April and wondered why your skin doesn’t look as glowy as you want, it’s usually because the real prep happens now. In the quieter, colder months when we can actually heal, repair, and rebuild your skin without fighting the summer sun.

Winter gives us space. Space for collagen to form, for pigment to fade, for texture to smooth, and for your barrier to finally breathe. And that means the treatments we do this season work harder, last longer, and show up beautifully by the time spring hits.

1. Microneedling: The Skin’s Reset Button

If there’s one treatment I love to do during the colder months, it’s microneedling, because Winter = less sun = the ideal time to heal from skin treatments. Winter is prime time because your skin is craving nourishment, so

Microneedling is perfect for treating:

  • Dull or dehydrated skin

  • Softening fine lines, acne scars and enlarged pores

  • Sun damage accumulated throughout the year

Why winter is perfect for microneedling:

  • You’re indoors more which is ideal for downtime and healing

  • Your skin is drier, so microneedling can add much needed hydration and skin barrier nourishment with more collagen

2. + PRP (AKA “Liquid Gold”)

If you want extra glow, radiance, and bounce with even quicker healing time, add PRP to your microneedling treatment. PRP uses your own plasma derived from a small blood sample to brighten, plump, and renew.

3. The Perfect Derma Peel

A chemical peel in the winter can:

  • Brighten dull skin

  • Smooth texture

  • Help with acne and breakouts

  • Fade sun spots left over from summer

  • Prep your skin for spring makeup and events

But just a little heads-up from me to you: You. Will. Peel.

From barely to … very noticeably 🐍. But I promise,  it’s totally normal! So let’s plan your peel around any big dates & you’ll be totally fine! The radiant skin will be worth it.

4. Injectables (Yes, They’re Still a Winter Essential)

While we’re on the topic of skin treatments, I can’t not mention injectables. Winter is actually one of my favorite times to do them.

Why:

  • You’re wearing more layers and staying in more, so swelling/settling feels less disruptive to your social calendar

  • Holiday stress (and expressive faces) = lines showing up more

  • Your spring photos will thank you

Botox, filler, Sculptra -  all settle beautifully when your skin is hydrated, nourished, and protected from the sun. And because we’re already doing all the right winter treatments, everything works more synergistically.

So, Why Does All of This Matter Now?

Because winter is the season for repair and reset.
Summer is for maintenance.

This is when we:

  • Fix texture

  • Boost collagen

  • Heal pigment

  • Strengthen the foundation

  • Set the stage for glowy, healthy spring skin

If you want your makeup to sit smoother, your skin to look brighter, your fine lines to soften, and your overall complexion to feel more alive - this is where we start.

My Winter Skin Game Plan for You

If you’re like, “Okay Steph, but what should I actually do?” here’s the cheat sheet:

  • Want glow? → The Perfect Peel

  • Want smoother texture? → Microneedling + PRP combo

  • Want to plan ahead for spring? → Injectables now, not April

And if you’re not sure, come in and let’s talk through it together. I can look at your skin, your lifestyle, your goals, and help map out a winter plan that feels realistic, supportive, and actually doable.

The cold air outside, the dry heat inside, the stress of the holidays -  all of it asks more of your skin. These winter months are genuinely the best chance to give it some love and set yourself up for the glowy, fresh, confident-in-your-bare-skin version of you that emerges when the sun finally comes back!
