PRP or Microneedling: Two Ways to Get Glowy Skin (and How to Choose)

If you’ve ever googled, “How do I get my skin to glow like it did when I was 23?” at 2am - usually after one too many glass-skin TikToks - PRP and Microneedling have definitely popped up.

They tend to show up together, they both promise better skin (they definitely deliver), and they’re often talked about like they’re interchangeable. They’re not - but they are both amazing options, depending on what your skin specifically needs.

First: They’re Different (But They Work Really Well Together)

Microneedling and PRP aren’t competing treatments. Think of them as two different tools that do different jobs, and sometimes even work best when paired.

Microneedling is the part that wakes your skin up and says, “Okay, time to rebuild.” While PRP is what comes in after and helps everything heal smoother and glow a little more.

Same end goal. Different roles. And what I like to call - the dream team.

Microneedling: The ‘Let’s Wake Things Up’ Treatment

Microneedling uses tiny, controlled needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. That sounds intense and scary, but I promise it’s not! The goal is simple: trigger your body’s natural healing response and boost collagen production.

Microneedling tends to be a great fit if your skin feels like it’s changed over time and has lost a bit of its luster.

You might relate if:

  • your skin looks fine from far away, but up close the texture stands out more

  • things feel a little rough or uneven where they used to feel smooth

  • makeup doesn’t sit the same way it used to

  • your skin just feels - less bouncy than it once did

If your goal is improving overall skin quality and supporting collagen long-term, microneedling is often where I start.

PRP: The Glow Support (Yes, the “Vampire Facial” Everyone Talks About)

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, but most people know it as liquid gold or, if we’re being very literal, liquid red gold.

Without getting too science-y: we take a small amount of your blood, spin it, and use the plasma to support healing, collagen, and overall skin health. Nothing synthetic or foreign; just your body naturally healing itself!

PRP doesn’t create the change on its own though -  it steps in after and helps everything heal better, glow more, and feel more alive.

It’s usually a great fit if your skin feels:

  • kind of dull, even when you’re well-rested

  • tired or flat in a way skincare alone isn’t fixing

  • depleted, especially after stress, travel, or a rough season

  • like it just needs a little help getting its glow back

This is the treatment I lean toward when someone says, “I don’t want to change anything, I just want my skin to look healthier.”

So… How Do You Choose?

This is usually where people want a single answer — and the honest truth is: it depends on why your skin isn’t glowing the way you want it to.

Here’s the simple breakdown:

Choose Microneedling if:

  • Your glow is missing because of texture or scarring

  • Your skin feels rough or uneven

  • You’re thinking long-term collagen support

Choose PRP if:

  • Your skin looks tired or depleted

  • You want brightness and bounce

  • You’re focused on healing and overall skin health

Consider Both if:

  • You want enhanced glow and faster recovery

  • You’re prepping for an event

  • You want noticeable results without looking overdone

Microneedling sets the stage.
PRP takes it up a notch.

There’s no “best” treatment across the board. There’s just what makes sense for your skin. And if you still aren’t sure what’s best for you, that’s why I’m here! Consultations are literally built for figuring this out together.
